Students who pursue a Psychology at Assumption College are challenged to critically evaluate complex issues in today's world by exploring the science of human thought and behavior. From foundation courses that address general concepts and theoretical perspectives, to electives that allow you to delve more deeply into specific areas of interest, the psychology program teaches students to become better analysts, communicators, and problem solvers.

The psychology program faculty serves as teachers and mentors, helping students define their professional goals through classroom learning, research projects, internships and independent study. Many students apply to Assumption’s graduate program in counseling psychology, which is affiliated with the prestigious Aaron T. Beck Institute for Cognitive Studies, which is located on-campus in Worcester, MA.

Psychology Degree

Psychology majors take 11 courses in developmental, social, cognitive and abnormal psychology, research methods and statistics. This breadth of coursework prepares students for a variety of career paths – human services, education, public service, counseling, management, psychological research, or graduate study.

Minor in Psychology

Students who minor in psychology take 6 psychology courses. Many students in business, sociology, and human services, take a psychology minor to better prepare them for work in their field of interest.

M.A. in Counseling Psychology

Assumption College’s Master of Arts in Counseling Psychology is a nationally renowned program that specializes in Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT). The program offers a unique course progression and curriculum-wide integration of CBT to help students build a broad knowledge base and specific expertise. Students learn from highly skilled psychologists who are committed to fostering their development as a mental health professional.
